I find myself browsing the UAE classifieds looking for potential positions and feel my eyes swell up with tears, my throat tighten and my stomach turn itself inside out until there’s a hollow tugging pull in all directions. I am terrified of that place. I’m terrified of what it once made me and has the potential to make me again. I’m terrified of how dangerous it really is, with its ass backwards laws and consequences and unexplained actions. I half fear that customs will grab me at the airport as I enter for some unknown, unseen crime I’ve committed (or even just been accused of committing) and been charged with in absence, without ever being made aware of it.
I’m stuck between a rock and a real hard place right now.
It’s literally been months since I’ve spoken to my son. No one ever answers any of the telephone numbers I have for him and his father is useless at encouraging him to call me. After a night of dreaming about my baby boy being in my arms again, I woke this morning knowing I’ve about had enough of this.
Sometimes I curse my own morals and the fact that I couldn’t, wouldn’t and didn’t kidnap him and somehow bring him home with me.
I called Dubai Police. It took four or five different telephone numbers I’d found online before I finally found one that didn’t just ring and ring. The man who answered was kind and gentle, but about as useless as I recall the majority of the UAE population to be. He told me to contact the UAE Embassy in Ottawa as they should help me. I explained I have tried to contact the UAE Embassy in Canada multiple times in the past for various reasons and I am never able to get through (as like most government offices in UAE, no one answers their Embassy phone here, either). He asked me to hold then came back with a local Dubai telephone number for me. After making me take it down, he explained it was the Canadian Consulate’s number in Dubai. They should help me. Of course, I’d have to wait until their tomorrow morning, or our current evening, to get an answer.
So I called the Canadian Consulate this evening. The man who answered the phone spoke with a thick Arabic accent and was so rude I called him out on it. He transferred me to a kind lady, who again couldn’t help me at all. Apparently, the only way I can get the UAE authorities to look into this, is to go back to the UAE myself and file a complaint with Dubai Courts. The only other possible option I have is to somehow give someone who is there, who is willing and able to help me fight for this, power or attorney. Of course, to give power or attorney to someone there, I have to do it in the UAE Embassy in Ottawa – or go to the UAE again.
Dealing with this country is spinning round and round, as fast as you can, in place. You don’t get anywhere and every now and then you find yourself so fucking dizzy you are left with a combination of severe pain and nausea.
So for now, I think I’m going to tuck myself into bed where I’ll cry myself to sleep. I’ll wake up tomorrow and hope being this far from my baby is less hard on me, than it is every other day. And I know it won’t be. So I’ll hope that the days will pass quickly and soon he’ll be old enough to come to me on his own, that he chooses to, and that when he does, he forgives me the choices I’d had to make that have kept us apart for so long.

Lars read that last entry of mine. Then, we opened a few early Christmas presents and celebrated ‘Us’. It occurred to us that we were spending so much time building up for one special day, we were kinda missing the ones in-between. So we celebrated. I left for Squamish knowing there was nothing wrong with us – knowing my everything would be waiting for me when I get home.
The week in Squamish was tough. On the way there, I got lost after dark. Lars' directions were vague, and the Port Mann construction meant they were void. Ramps no longer exist and the signs aren’t what they used to be. I fell into a raging fit of absolute hysteria. I felt like a little girl, alone, scared and so very vulnerable. I took it out on Lars. He let me. And then, when I calmed down a little, I realized I had my iPad. My iPad showed me my way, and secretly (under my tears and raging anger) I thanked Lars. His instructions may have been ass-backwards and confusing, but his gift is what showed me my way.
I arrived in Squamish shaken up and pissed off. I slept that night feeling like a bag of rattled nerves. It wasn’t the best way to start my week. The week was spent working – training our newbies, concentrating on closing the holes in our training process, and learning to improve myself. I have been working on being a nicer, more positive person as I am far too blunt at times. I’m thankful for having some fantastic guidance in my office. I really enjoyed being there and having an opportunity to learn myself.
When I wasn’t working, training or learning, or sleeping, I found myself concentrating on helping one of my very best friends cope with loss (mourning a little myself for her puppy who suddenly grew a heart too big for his body, and took his last breath in the middle of my visit). It’s all been emotionally exhausting.
I came home to find my gym almost finished. My weights are set up, my treadmill is plugged in, and everything is in place. When Lars was done with that, he rearranged our bedroom, just the way I’d suggested I’d wanted it. He is far too good to me.
I’m happy to be home. I’m happy to know that tonight I will sleep in my own bed with the man I want to wake up with every day for the rest of my life sleeping right beside me.

Lars and I aren’t at each other’s throats… but we’re nor at each other’s hearts either these days. We’re lukewarm, at best. Today while we were out shopping I snapped at him – I was on the verge of making one of those public scenes I hate so very much (and should probably be very thankful that he didn’t let it escalate but instead just stayed quiet). He was busy admiring the Dyson fans and I wanted his opinion on hangers (or maybe I was indirectly asking if I should bother buying them for myself, as he might just be as observant to realize they were something I really needed and want and may already be waiting under the tree for me?) The shopping trip wasn’t about him or me. I was going out to pick up gifts for the people in Squamish so they’ll be ready to go with me tomorrow.
I wasn’t looking at things for us (I’m pretty sure we’ve both already been spoiled for Christmas). I restrained myself from looking at things I really wanted. I felt annoyed and betrayed that he spent so much time on his own interests (like I didn’t notice the movie he had hinted he’d like to find under the tree at the store just before) – even if it does feel like it was just a few minutes looking at one fan to him, it felt like all day for me, waiting by those stupid hangers for a response. It’s not really the time of year for us to be thinking about ‘me’ at all and I would have normally just bought them for myself without blinking, but I don’t dare now, as it’s Christmas time and just maybe they’ve already been purchased. And now, we should be looking out for others. Today, Lars and my trip was meant to be about others… But it’s more than that…
I know how hypocritical this may sound. But I wasn't dwelling on, investigating or trying to spend any time on the stupid hangers - I just happened to notice something I think we need and didn't know if I should purchase them or if they've already been purchased for me. Lars was looking and learning about things for him. Earlier, I'd found lost him in the damn movie store as he was looking at (and eventually hinting at) movies he was interested in.
Our relationship feels dry right now. It has for a few days now. And I can’t help but wonder if it’s been longer than that and I’ve just pushed it under the carpets. I love him. I know he loves me. And our chances are higher than most who run off and get married these days, as it’s real…. But is this the dry, uninterested, taking-each-other for granted place couples find themselves in when they are so comfortable it doesn’t matter? He doesn’t make himself ‘pretty’ for me these days. I try to keep myself pretty for him. Maybe he doesn’t see it anymore? We aren’t as intimate as I want to be… I don’t know why. Maybe it’s just the time of year. Last year, this time, Lars and I almost broke…
Perhaps I just need to wait and see… In the meantime, it’s important I recognize and those around me (Lars) realize… I’m just not feeling it right now.
I’m leaving for Squamish tomorrow. I will miss you and I hope when I come home, things feel a whole lot better (for us both – as I’m sure if I’m feeling something’s off, so are you!).

I’m not really sure how I’m best to react to your Facebook friend request. I don’t know where it has come from or why you’ve decided you’d finally like to be a part of my life. We haven’t spoken in 17 years. I am very angry at you – more so since my mom died. I’m a grown enough person that I know I can let go of my anger eventually. What concerns me more is whether or not you’ll ever be able to accept how justified my anger towards you is. It really doesn’t matter whether you do or don’t; it’s more that I don’t have room in my life for negativity of any sort – and don’t have the energy even bother if you won’t be able to accept me for all that I am including my feelings towards you. I don’t want to bother, if being me will be met with negativity from you.
I am a grown woman. I’m pretty content with my life the way it is. But that really hasn’t always been the case – and I blame you for a lot of it. I have a father. His name is Martin. He has supported me emotionally for the majority of my life. He is the only person I have ever and will ever know as a father.
I don’t know you. And you don’t know me. To be blunt, I can be a fucking bitch and I’ve said some really nasty things about you because I feel some really nasty things towards you. I won’t ever take them back. I won’t ever be sorry for the way I feel or the things I have said. As far as I’m concerned you deserved them.
What I can do is leave the past, the person you were to my mother and the person you weren’t to me, in the past. And if you’re willing to accept me for who and what I am today – even if that hasn’t always been the most flattering person for you, I can try to accept you for who and what you are today. I will welcome your entrance in my life as I would any long lost relative. If you’re not willing to accept me and my feelings towards you, I have no interest in being your friend – not on Facebook or elsewhere, and I would appreciate it much if you didn’t even bother to reply to this email.

I gave Lars a greeting card tonight. It said, “I want to grow old and disgusting with you.” I’m pretty sure he feels the same and for that I’m pretty lucky. There’s another in the stack, waiting for the right time for me to hand it over. Perhaps, just maybe… I’ll hand it over once he’s had a chance to read and absorb these thoughts of mine.
I lost the true love of my life when I was a teenager. I couldn’t count the number of times I’ve written about him & our fairytale-like tragedy. I cannot, until today, forget the man he was, who he made me, and who he became without me, and I without him.
I never thought I’d find a man who’d take his place. And I haven’t. My true love is out there somewhere... And he can go fuck himself. I’ve found someone that means so much more. I found someone whom I know would not let anything, nothing at all get between us. I found a man who might just possibly love me more than I do him (as if that were possible!). I found a man who will fight for me. I found a man I can depend on, without a doubt. I found a man who knows everything about me, and truly loves me still. I found a man who is secure enough in us, that I can be totally honest with him about everything. I found a man I may not always agree with, but love him for him just the same. I found a man that is not my ideal or true love, but my absolute soul mate. I found my match.
Leah… I know you once thought he was your man. He wasn’t. Your man is still out there – only you won’t find him if you don’t stop dwelling on mine, as if he were ever really meant to be with you. You really do need to move on now.
Lars arrived home from Manitoba last night. He’s not allowed to go again any time soon. We missed him far too much around here.
With my mom’s estate issues coming to an end, Lars, my father and I are all planning the future now. We’re taking steps towards Lars & my wedding, me building a home (shhh!), and Lars and I either having or adopting children. At 30 years old, I look and feel better than I have in my entire life. I’m surrounded by more love than I’ve ever known. I am so incredibly blessed. If 2012 is the end of the world, I’d want just one last hug from my son, and I’d be pretty much alright with that.

Such a busy non-summer it’s been! Most of it has been just brilliant.
I graduated my Web Design course – finishing with a final grade of 100% - after of course the Administrator corrected his typing error that initially gave me 97%. He blamed the mistake on others. I personally think he did it on purpose out of spite (I didn’t exactly make his life easy) – he probably didn’t count on me asking for specifics on how or why I was marked so low in the Flash section of the course. So when I did confront him, he blamed the instructor. When I copied the instructor on the communications and demanded an explanation for the mark and asked what part of the lessons I failed to get, my instructor assured me he’d marked me 100% across the board. The Administrator responded shortly after blaming another faculty member of the same first name as my instructor for the mistake. I don't buy it, but don't really care (I don't have to work with him), so long as my mark is corrected. My transcripts were corrected – not without fight of course.
Can’t really get much higher than 100%, though I’m not sure it’s fully deserved seeing how two sections of the course were taught by incompetent people and I honestly can’t say what I learned during those sections from the school. It really isn’t much of a school, but more a cash cow for the business owner. There’s no other reputable technology specific learning centre on the island – which means Q College can afford to financially rape students with half-assed courses taught by non-teachers. Out of an 11 week course that cost $7056.00 (inc. taxes), my entire class is asking for some sort of compensation for at least 3 weeks that were wasted by the school with crappy instructors with crappy instruction – it says a lot really when you’re taking about $641.45 a week. I did however learn a hell of a lot on my own taking online tutorials to cover the sections we were supposed to be learning in class. I’m still waiting on Q College’s promised reimbursement (either in cash or in lesson re-takes with qualified instructors). I highly doubt we’ll ever see it. To my knowledge, none of the other students have heard anything either.
Life goes on, and this almost-summer has had way more ups than downs...
I finally got to meet my sister Renee, and my nephews Brandon and Aiden. It’s almost scary how similarly Renee and I seem to be built:
We’re both the same height, same shoe size...
She is fantastic. My nephews are fantastic. And my biological father had enough respect for what I feel for him to keep his distance – I didn’t even have to look him in the eye. They came and left so quickly, it breaks my hear t to know I have such good family so far away… But at least I have them now.
Lars has left to Snowlake to take care of a Tree Falling contract for his father. He’ll be returning with his dad, and hopefully an excavator just as soon as the job’s done – however long that takes a few weeks or so. Crappy time of year for him to be in Manitoba. I hear there’s bugs. It’s weird to not have him in the house – not right. That’s something to think about next time I tell him I want him to leave out of anger. It’s not nice not having him here. We’ve had our ups and downs recently, but most of all, we’ll pulled through and we’re happy – still madly in love. He’ll be back soon, and next week I’m up and leaving to Squamish again for work…
Ahh, time for bed. My. Big. New. Empty. Bed. I miss Lars.

“I feel like crying,” I said as we walked into the kitchen. And before the words were out of my mouth I choked up, my eyes filled with tears and my knees went weak. I fell into Lars’ arms and just sobbed against his chest for a bit.
Mother’s Day is hard for me.
My mom’s dead. I have no mom to spoil. My son is a world away from me. Most people forget I’m a mom at all – let alone spoil me. And I don’t even know that I deserve to be spoiled, anyway.
Lars didn’t even wish me a good day today. And when I mentioned it, the significance of this day for me half way through the day, he responded with the reality, ’I didn’t think of it like that’. I’m not angry at him at all about this. It’s just how it is… Not many think of it like that.
I wonder how my brother’s doing today. I imagine the repeated reminders that our mom is no more, are eating him alive right now. And he seems to take this truth the hardest. He was her baby after all…
My ex-husband sent me photos of our son, a video too. He’s growing so much and he’s so very beautiful. I miss him. And sometimes I wonder if I’m getting any closer to going back there to be with him, or if he’s any closer to coming here to be with me. The thought fills me with more hope than I could ever describe. I don’t even know if he’d like me today but I know I love him and want nothing more than to be with him. It’s been years too long now. And I can still hear his cries as we said our last goodbye – him not understanding at all just what my trip would mean. It was so unfair to him; so necessary, but so very unfair.
This is life I suppose.
And along with that cry, I can still hear his laugh as he did when I whispered repeatedly in his ear that I loved him. My bangs are still a little shorter than the rest of my hair, from him grasping it in his sleep, pulling it out, as an infant dreaming.
And those are good thoughts.
And those are good thoughts.
So… Happy Mommy’s Day to all the good mommy’s out there. I’m going to spend the rest of my evening cuddled on the couch with a movie Lars picked up for me today. I'm so very lucky to have him.

I’ll wait for you there, like a stone.
I’ll wait for you there… alone.
Funny the difference a day can make,
the pain a heart can take,
feign break
only to awake
more complete, than it’s ever been before.

We spent the day playing in the warmth… the warmth of the sun and the warmth of each other. My body is not yet fully healed but we’ve enjoyed almost every inch of one another just the same. We woke to sunshine bathing our deck, so out we went to enjoy our morning coffee. Lars moved on to chop wood and I watched for a while, before I finally moved to the kitchen only to make us breakfast. We ate on the deck and stayed there for hours. We watched as our new tenants moved in. We were still on the deck when my niece arrived to visit and pick up her new (our old) couches.
We really did take advantage of the day, basking in the sun, playing in the light, soaking in the vitamin D. We put all chores aside and simply enjoyed each moment for what it was. I don’t think we’ve had a weekend so relaxing all winter.
We talked. We talked a little about what went wrong, where we fell off track, and what bothers us still from this most recent falling. We talked about anger and how it paints such ugly pictures of one another and we talked about how misunderstood we felt as we both attacked one another.
We talked about the things others are doing in light of our fighting, that bother us still and possibly reform major parts of our relationship/future. And we’ve both come to realize, we’re entitled to our feelings – even if things aren’t ideal.
We talked about our engagement, and how we’re happy just ‘dating’ again. If and when the time is right, perhaps he’ll ask me to marry him again. For now, we’re just lovers falling in love all over again.
Lars has gone to Puckle to feed the birds. I’m about to make us dinner. I couldn’t have asked for a better, more relaxing weekend in order to start the next week of work and school and more work…
In short, we’re doing well. We’re repairing what we broke and we’re smiling while doing it. And in doing so, we’re learning a lot about the people around us and each other.

Since I was a little girl ‘sleepy me’ has been a crybaby. Literally. When I’m over tried, I cry about everything and anything. In fact, tired enough, I will even cry over a non-thing. I’ve felt a lot like that lately, only right now, I know I have had some reason to cry. Not today though. Today is better. I should be and am finding reason to smile. Still, a tired tear waits at the edge of my eye to spill and I can feel it taunting me.
Last night, Lars so very politely asked me if he could please hug me goodnight. The thought tore me apart for some reason and I immediately burst into tears. I found myself refusing though I wanted so very badly to accept, to feel his arms around me, to hug him back. It made me realize, even as I explained this conflict of emotion to him and he so gracefully accepted refusal, we all just suck for human beings sometimes… And I can be the stupidest fuck of us all.
I try to be bigger than this.
We build these walls, these rules, these conditions that only we live by – and they only make our own lives more difficult.
I spent a lot of today wondering if I’d have slept better if I’d accepted that hug. In fact, as I drove off this morning, I felt a whole lot of fear that I wouldn’t make it home, wouldn’t see him again and if he’d resent me eternally for not giving him one last embrace, if I’d resent me if I made it home and he wasn’t there? I’m thankful I am home. I’m thankful he’s still here. I will not make the same mistake tonight.
I picked up a tub of Cherry Garcia, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream on my way home today. I hope to take a few moments after work to share it with him – as tired and in need of rest as I am, I think I need some human contact with someone I know loves me very deeply. He probably does too. And Lars introduced me to this little bit of heaven when we first met. I still remember the day we lay in bed together sharing spoon after spoon. He gave me all the delicious big chunks of cherry-chocolaty climatic flavour, leaving himself only the plain ice-cream and the little bits left over. But I digress…
The hug refusal…
The experience of sheer internal conflict and turmoil has caused an epiphany. We don’t need to read the books on how to rekindle love and romance. Perhaps, Lars and I are meant to write the next one.
Lars said to me today, ‘We were meant to learn from each other that’s for sure, learn about love, trust and feelings.”
What I learn, I’m meant to teach. Perhaps it’s why I write as openly as I do?
We are both deeply hurt, deeply wounded, and perhaps even a little bitter still. We are not out of rough waters yet and tomorrow things may again take another drastic twist. But, deep down inside, I’m sure Lars and I both want that very same thing, and that… that’s a great place to start. We’re going to work on being friends right now. We’re going to build on that fierce love we once had and disgusted the world with. I’m going to try and listen better, to myself (what’s happening behind those mental walls and barriers I’ve built), and to Lars. There’s not a doubt in my mind he’s going to do the same thing.
And hopefully tonight, we both get some real rest so this tired tear of mine might hide away for another day.

It took two sleeping pills for me to finally fall asleep last night. I’ve woken this morning still exhausted, but willing to get on with my day... my life.
I came to realize yesterday that every time we have had a falling out, I was somehow painted as the bad person when the reality of the entire relationship, the entire situation is that we were never meant to be. Period.
Because he thinks of me as selfish and arrogant, that’s all he’ll ever see in me. His mind makes a decision on what my intent is, and judged as that I am. There’s no convincing in the world that will make him see I really did just need to sleep my last night in Squamish, and had no intentions of drinking for '"third time in less than a work week," which in my opinion, is none of his god-damned business and he shouldn't be trying to guilt me about in the first place. There’s no convincing in the world that I withdrew from the day consciously because I did not want others to be uncomfortable in our fighting presence, that Tareq and I had no real plans set, but decided he would simply call when he got to Vancouver so we might try and make a meeting work – a call which came when I was already on the ferry.
Because I see him as narcissistic, egotistical and immature, my mind paints him, as it wants to see before I give him a chance to speak or act. I’m aware of this. Because of this, I believe all the good he does for me, is really for him. He gives a flower not because he wants to see me smile, but because he needs to feel thanked and appreciated. He does a good deed not because it makes him feel good to do it, but because he craves the praise he gets in response. And I'm probably very wrong about all this. But because that's what I see now in him, that's what I'll always see.
He is not what I think of him, nor am I what he thinks of me.
We were simply not compatible.
We lied to each other and to ourselves attempting to convince all that we were good. We did not enjoy one another’s company. We did not have great conversation. We never saw eye-to-eye. We stopped playing so long ago I can’t remember the last time I actually had fun with him, smiled with him, actually felt a connections with him – and I know for certain he feels the same way.
We still tried. We still had love for each other. But we are not in love with each other. Trying like this, only leads to contempt and dissatisfaction.
This chapter of my life is now done.
I don’t need 5 years of misery to tell me it’s time to leave. Though he may not realize it yet, neither does he. All the potential in the world doesn’t change a god-damned thing if neither one of us wants to do anything about it. All the potential in the world doesn’t change a thing if we can’t communicate our true likes and dislikes without disgusting each other – and yes, often I find he does disgust me as he’s made sure I know I do him.
I don’t know about you, but for me… I simply don’t love you anymore.
I don’t want to do anything about that potential now. It’s too late for that. I’ve experienced too much of the ugly in you, for the good (and yes, there is a lot of good) to matter to me anymore. Embarrassing acts like throwing gifts in stove fireplaces for my father and I to find, sending long emails of insult and accusation about me to all my loved ones, continual insult and badgering at me telling me what’s wrong with ME, how horrible a person I am, instead of listening to what I'm telling you I feel and communicating what you feel, what’s upsetting you … All of those things make me blind to any good you are or you’ve done now.
I don’t want to do anything about that potential now. It’s too late for that. I’ve experienced too much of the ugly in you, for the good (and yes, there is a lot of good) to matter to me anymore. We come into each other’s lives for a reason. Some meetings are temporary. I’m thankful for my time with Lars. I’m thankful to have had the grace of meeting and being with his family. And I’m thankful that as he works through this heartache, he has them and is comfortable in confiding in them now.
I’m also thankful it’s over. I’m tired of living a lie.

Last Thursday, Lars and I lost a baby.
We decided to terminate the pregnancy, knowing neither of us was in any position to bring a child into the world. Before learning it was a pregnancy eating at my immune system, simply thinking I was sick with ear and throat infections, I’d unknowingly taken a course of antibiotics, a few sleeping pills and had a few too many heavy drinking nights – it being my birthday month and all. Our relationship itself wasn’t solid enough to have children – just recently taking a blow so big I didn’t think we’d ever fully recover from; and financially we were certainly not stable enough.
We weren’t going to tell anybody out of fear it would only cause more pain and confusion than we were all already facing due to other family circumstances and situations.
Today I’ve realized that I’m tired of bearing all the pain and protecting everyone else from it. I’m tired of being labeled the arrogant, self-centered one, when almost everything I ever do is in consideration of those around me and all I really ask in return is a little consideration right back.
Not now. Now, I need someone to recognize how fucking hard this has been, and still IS on me. I don't have a fucking shoulder to cry on. My mom's dead. My closest friends, my son even are on the other side of the planet. And no one else I know could possibly understand what the hell it is I'm feeling. And I need that person who understands even remotely, to not be him… because I just don’t believe him, or even believe in him anymore.
I’m going to be selfish now, and I’m going to use my damn journal for what it’s meant to be used; FOR ME. And I’m going to share it. If you don’t like it, well fuck you – stop reading.
Lars has his mom, his sister, his step-dad, and his real dad… countless people. Not me. Me… I have my fucking journal to spill my guts to. Do you have any idea how hard it's been to KEEP from writing about this until now -- thinking of others and how upset it might make them?
How fucking upsetting has HAVING TO HIDE THIS, to lie about this, has it finally gotten me? IT IS TIME I THINK ABOUT AND TAKE CARE OF MY FEELINGS.
I’d spent the weeks since I found out I was pregnant, feeling my body grow, swell and ache torn by the concept of abortion, so very badly wanting to hold an infant in my arms and know it was another part of me and someone I loved. I tossed around the idea of keeping it. I half-tried to convince myself that maybe we should – at one point, it seemed as though everything was conspiring against the abortion. I even suggested it a few times to Lars. But he kept me grounded, in knowing and confirming we were in no position to parent a baby – he didn’t seem to flinch even once over it. And I couldn't be more certain than right now, not even when the doctor told me it would never make full term, he was right.
There wasn’t an appointment available on the Island until long after I start College. Lars and I had to go to Vancouver. That’s why I ended up in my office as I did. That’s why the trip was so sudden and shady, with no hello’s along the way.
I was needed in my office to help train new staff and to cover for a boss while she was at a conference yesterday. But I had no plans to actually go being sick, pregnant, contemplating abortion, all with my studies starting this Monday. I couldn’t afford the trip and simply didn’t have the time. It was only when I realized I had no choice but to go to the mainland anyway, that the parts of this trip started falling together. The logic of me heading up north to Squamish right after, spreading myself far enough to get done what I needed done, help my office out where I could, heal as best I could and still get back in time to start my course, hopefully seeing loved ones for a short visit on the way back, could work and made sense! So what if it wore me a little thin? I’m a tough girl. I can take it.
Some seem to think, I can and should take anything and everything.
Thursday Lars and I were at the clinic in Vancouver. Before performing the procedure the doctor did an ultrasound and advised me the embryo, at eight weeks along, was non-existent. I was going to miscarry anyway. Despite planning on terminating the pregnancy, the overwhelming sense of responsibility and guilt still brings me to tears now: betrayed by my own body.
I had a choice, get it over with then and there or let nature run its course; suffering a natural miscarriage within the next few days. I had the procedure. I did it without meds. You are not allowed to drive for 24-hours if you take the meds, and almost immediately after I needed to drive the Sea to Sky to get to my office. So that’s exactly what I did. I had a very painful operation (in more ways than one). Lars and I ate lunch. And then I drove the two hours north to my office, while he headed back home to take care of other obligations we couldn’t avoid.
I pretty much spent three days sleeping on my girlfriend’s couch, getting up only to paint a canvas. I was lucky enough to only start work on the following Monday. I spent the rest of my time there working, or sleeping for the most part – excepting the two evenings where Jody and I shared a few glasses of wine, as girlfriends should every now and then.
I worked 40+ hours last week, while trying to heal from my torn apart stomach. I was then diagnosed with Psoriasis (on my face) on Wednesday evening. Psoriasis is a reoccurring skin disease doctor’s believe may be caused by stress. And when it’s on your face, it’s horrific both looking and feeling. Mine, was between my eyes, creeping closer and closer to my actual eyeball. I had no choice but to treat it with steroids.
I’m fucking tired. I have had enough life lessons for now.
Today is my only day off, before I start another 6-day week, only this next one also includes full-time school in addition to work, and all the healing: physical, psychological, and emotional, I need to do at the same time.
All I wanted was to spend today smiling in the sun that’s finally made an appearance, with loved ones. But no… that’s not going to happen.
I cannot smile when I’m being told I’m selfish, because I want to wake up naturally rather than to the sound of the alarm that’s been breaking my much-needed rest all week. I cannot smile when I’m being accused of wanting to party the night before, thinking only of myself and no one else, when that couldn’t be any further from reality – I simply needed to and indeed did, go to sleep in order to feel half ok for today. I cannot smile and enjoy myself, when I’m being told it’s selfish and arrogant of me to even suggest we could try and fit a quick visit in with a friend from the States who just happens to be passing through the same city we were meant to pass through today. And I especially cannot smile when I’d already told that friend chances are it wouldn’t be possible, but we could try, and I am then made aware ‘trying’ wasn’t an option because you KNOW we won’t have enough time – even if you’re sorry about it.
I cannot smile, when I decide to distance myself from the bickering, the verbal attacks and accusations, by removing myself from the day’s equation – only to be told, I am the reason for ruining everyone else's day! Selfish, inconsiderate me!
I removed myself because I didn’t think anyone else needed to be involved in our misery! I didn’t want them to have to suffer our bad day together – because clearly the day had been shot for me! I just wanted to go home and go to bed. You could have gone to see your mom, sister and dad. You could have enjoyed yourself and your evening with them. And left me away from you to rest in actual peace. Instead, you choose to get on a returning ferry, continue an ongoing fight blaming me for you not seeing your family. All the while you continued to berate me on what a horrible person I am and need to know it.
I cannot smile or enjoy any of this. I’m FUCKING tired of it all.
But most of all…
I’m tired of you having to be with someone you think is so arrogant, selfish, mean, spoiled and immature. You certainly deserve and can find someone you think of as better. While I… I deserve to be with someone who thinks higher than this of me – and I’m sure I’ll find that too.
I’m going to take a sleeping pill and I am going to try and go to sleep. I’m going to wake up tomorrow and do my job as best I can. Then I’m going to take a sleeping pill and I will continue to try and sleep. I will continue to do this, to sleep off this misery until I am damn well ready to deal with anything else from anyone else.
While you keep your word to take care of things as you have, I am going to be as civil with you as I can. I’m going to respect you for who you are. And I pray you’ll be man enough to treat me with some civil nature and respect while we separate our lives.
But for now… I AM JUST FUCKING TIRED. And I don’t give a shit if you think this is selfish: me being arrogant, selfish, childish, immature, whatever… doesn’t change what you make me feel… make me think of you.

Tonight, sometime between 11:50 and midnight, will mark exactly 1 year since I first lay eyes on Lars. Overall, it’s been a great year of us getting to know one another at our best and worst. We’ve had some huge fights (he’s far more dramatic than I am) and we’ve had some explicit moments of absolutely blissful love (he’s far more romantic, even mushy than I am).
We balance each other out well, it turns out.
Upon finding Lars, I found his family – very much a part of my own family today. He is blessed to have some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met in his immediate family. I am blessed to now know them – for not only who they are but also the lessons they help me learn.
Today is a day where you can feel the energy in the air.
Yesterday marked the start of Autism Awareness month, and I watch as many of my loved ones band together to increase awareness, work for a single great cause. Sometimes, it saddens me a little that we all don’t more often band together for equally important matters, simply because they don’t effect us directly or we’re not aware of them! But we do what we can with what we have and hope it makes a difference. And for that, I am very proud.
Today, is also the first full day a very dear family member sits in a new hospital, patiently awaiting a spot for a major surgery to take place. Though no definitive time has been set, the surgery must take place quickly, as infection is spreading at rapid speeds. We hope and pray it takes place today and that he recovers quickly.
Today also marks the first full day I am officially a college student again. Yesterday, I completed the loan process, paid for and enrolled in this course: Web Development & Internet Marketing. Along with that came $7,501 new debt, with an additional 2 – 3 thousand dollars interest, I’m certain will be worth it in the end. And Lars loves the idea of having his very own schoolgirl – even though there will be no plaid skirts here!
Today is a day you can feel the energy in the air. My brother is coming around for dinner. He’s been having a tough go at it recently. Hopefully, we’ll be able to pass some of the positive good energy on to him, and let him leave feeling a little lighter than he arrives.
Today is bound to be a good day. Even the sun is peeking through the clouds as I type. Couldn't choose a better day to start year 2.

Sometimes all it takes is a look deep inside; we just need to listen to our bodies, deepest thoughts, and our subconscious feelings, in order for everything to make sense… to slowly fall back into place in order that we become ourselves again.
I’m starting to feel a whole lot better.
I still feel very wronged by a number of people, but with clarity I realize the problem is more with them than I. I was taking things far too personally. The issues and the reactions say a lot more about their integrity than they do mine. Despite any rash or unjust judgements, I’m still exactly the same person with exactly the same morals and self-respect I’ve always prided myself on. And I have some very clear personal answers (that I shall keep private) as to why I felt so emotionally overwhelmed by it all as well.
I still feel physically sick. I have a sore throat, that had Lars and I in emergency for a while last night. It’s odd because I just finished a course of antibiotics for that horrible bleeding each infection. But today, with the help of some mild painkillers and local anaesthesia that numbs, even that feels improved.
I am certain as winter turns to spring and the clouds and sunshine battle in the skies for a dominant standing, I will face a couple of very trying weeks ahead. I’m thankful I have Lars to lean on. I’m thankful I have understanding, loving people I can turn to in all directions.
I’m thankful the worst things in my world at this time really are with me and I do have the power to change them… even if the change that’s needed is in me.

I’m trying my hardest to fight off a severe internal bitterness right now. It’s been looming, growing even, in my core for weeks now.
And we’ve had a few seemingly great days around here, at least on the surface. We were able to enjoy my birthday party; in fact, some of us had too much fun:
But deep inside, I can’t help but feel I’ve taken one too many god-damned blows lately, in every aspect of my life.
I am doing all that I can to fight off bitterness towards loved ones and acquaintances alike; too many having recently passed ill judgement on me without any facts or a willingness to even hear/read them.
I am doing all that I can to try and mend and repair some very severe damage that has been inflicted on my core, while I can’t help but feel bitter for the tainted light that I’ve been bathed in - after being beaten to a pulp or kicked while I was down.
Rub two rocks together long enough and they’ll catch fire. It’s absolutely fucking despicable to chastise the rocks for igniting. It’s absolutely fucking despicable to make accusations of a fire, despite not seeing it for yourself. And I’m kind of sick of feeling like either of those damned rocks.
I know some people meant absolutely no offense towards me. I know they have their own load of stresses, and personal concerns. What I don’t know is… I don’t know that it’s worth the effort anymore.
And this little bit isn't about them... it's about me.
I’m kept awake at night in anger, frustration, and contemplation about whether or not mending anything is really worth my trouble.
The frustration and bitterness isn’t subsiding but increasing as time goes by. I don’t know that I’ll be able to just forget and move on like this.
Perhaps instead it’s time to reevaluate a few more situations and make some very, very severe changes.
I sincerely believe that if I’m not happy with something in my life, I should be in control of changing it. But what happens where I am happy, I am not in control, and the only viable solutions tend to come with loss and pain of its own, then?
I’m guessing, eventually, a person just snaps.
I feel like I’m on the verge.

The last 24 hours have been emotionally, psychologically, and physically exhausting. I am going to sleep like a baby tonight.
Today… today has been calm and quiet. I made sure it would be. I ignored every ounce of drama and removed every possible hint of its conception from my immediate surroundings the moment I opened my still-tired-eyes. I have been deeply saddened; perhaps even in a state of mourning over what I am now certain is irreparably broken. Even still… today has been a good day.
I predict each day from here on out will only get better.
Today the hospital discharged just enough patients from the right departments to let our loved one, who is still in hospital, finally move from the ER to a private room. May he finally sleep like a baby, heal quickly and get home to his wife. And may those who love and worry for him rest a little better tonight too.
Today, the sun came out for a while and we got warm while driving around, without the car heaters on.
Today, I checked the mailbox and there was a surprise birthday card, a beautiful quartz necklace and some priceless pictures of my baby brother (the one I just recently found), waiting for me. I cannot even start to explain how much joy this simple gesture has given me.
Today, despite my core hurting, despite coping with unspeakable pains, has been a day full of good, and love, and calm.
Tonight, I’m going to sleep like a baby.

You can’t offer a person a glass of tainted wine, with the capsules clearly visible and then claim you’re offering them nourishment, scream at them for not accepting your gesture, while they watch you try to poison them.
Likewise, you can’t claim you’re trying to make amends, make up, and get over a falling out, while still assaulting and insulting, furious your futile attempts at reconciliation fail.
It just doesn’t work.
Today is my 30th birthday. I’ve learned a lot in my 30 years. Mostly, I’ve learned I don’t have room for negative influences. I don’t have the patience to deal with the bullshit.
We don’t have the time on planet earth to give in to sour, sick, exaggerated feelings.
We love. We hate. We feel torn. We live. We laugh. We cry. We hurt… both others and ourselves. We learn. We laugh some more. We cry harder. We scream louder, and then we whisper softer. We feel ambivalence, and abundance. We love more. We hate more. We get to know passion like the back of our hands, and then like any flaming romance it eventually dulls, even bores. Then we’re faced with the choice:
Do we seek something greater, higher, deeper, and more extravagant? Or are we content with what we have, what we know?
When it comes to emotional roller coasters, I’ve had my share. And I’ve decided that I’m content and do not need to know a deeper love nor hate. I do not need to express my anger over days of insult, childish, dramatic, totally dysfunctional behaviour. And I don’t wish to associate with those who have reached adulthood and still feel the need. I love through and true, and I have chosen to love you.
Life is not easy. Nor is love. We learn to communicate effectively to get the responses we need… Or, as the battle of the fittest works we keep losing – over and over again.
If you really want me to drink that glass of wine… next time you pour it… leave the pills aside.

It’s been a crappy week, from start to finish.
I know I’m hated. I’m ok with that.
Today though… I learned that I’m hated enough for someone to try and kill me. I’m not so ok with that.
Let me explain…
A few days into my recent Squamish trip, I woke in the morning, jumped in my car and headed to my nieces house. We were off to the city to buy salon shampoo (she’s a certified hair dresser and I have great hair)! On the way, I noticed my emergency brake warning light was on. My other brakes worked just fine and so I figured I’d have it looked at when I came back to the island. Afterall, I’d recently had my brakes checked and they are still under warranty. I didn’t worry much about it at all.
Today, my father took my car to the mechanic. He came home, interrupted me from work (something he never does) to tell me what the mechanic had shared. In 30-years the mechanic had never seen a nut loosen the way mine was loosened on it’s own. My brakes had almost certainly been tampered with. The mechanic warned, and questioned whether or not I had any real enemies.
I suppose my heart should be racing right about now.
I should probably be shitting myself about the fact that someone actually made an attempt to take my life. When I think about it really, really hard, I guess it does make my stomach tighten. But more than fear, I question who… and I can think of two people, both so stupid they’d probably mistakenly choose to sabotage my e-brake rather than my actual breaks, and only one person logical.
In case I do get murdered (or my sister Kelly is hurt in any way for that matter), let me say right now: the most logical person I can think of, the only person who resides in Squmaish whom I believe hates me enough and has the insanity, the audacity to try such a stunt is Kelly’s ex John (I leave his last name out of this for the sake of my niece and nephew who carry the same name, only). Putting John aside, the unlikely suspect, the only other person who hates me as much, would by my other sister, Sheila Fouchier.
Now please don’t misunderstand, I am not accusing either person of attempted murder. I have no proof and I’m not one to talk out of my ass. I’m saying if I could search the deepest corners of my mind and consider all possible suspects who have the hatred, the lack of conscience, the absolute insanity that I’ve met in my life, it would be one of those two people.
It’s pouring again.
This is not the end of the drama in my life right now. I’m still recovering from my illness. Loved ones are ill and in hospital – Lars and I may make a trip tomorrow morning to offer love and positive energy.
Lars has decided he needs a new job as well as I, his current not meeting all his needs.
A major earthquake hit Japan, a devastating Tsunami followed. The images haunt me as I selfishly ponder our own expected quake.
My father mis-heard and ended up buying new tires for my car, rather than having them rotated costing him $400 more than he intended to spend today.
My nail broke and looks all fucked up.
I haven’t cleaned my house, or even unpacked since my Squamish trip I’ve been so sick and unwell.
Oh, and someone wants me dead.
It’s pouring again.

If home is where my heart is, then home is in Dubai with my son, on the island with Lars, my brother and my father, in Squamish where my sister, nieces, nephew and my company are. Home is also in Ontario where my other siblings reside. They say that home is where the heart is… but what if your heart is shattered, in pieces all over the place? Where does that really leave you?
Could the concept of home be as abstract as to be a temporary concept?
I have a fever. My head hurts. My throat and ears ache. I’m sick. It’s fully possible I’m thinking in circles. I blame the snow.
But I’m back on the island… back home. I didn’t tell Lars I was coming (a week or so earlier than planned). He had made plans for the boys to come visit for the weekend, and I felt a little like I crashed their boy-party because of it. I made jello-shots to make up for it (and to test them in preparation for my birthday party coming up), and spent the rest of the time (for the most part) in bed trying to fight off this illness. They had a good time just the same. And… I like knowing that Lars gets love from all directions, even when I’m not here.
Lars was happy to see me. When he told Lance I’d surprised him, Lars responded to Lance’s “UhOh” with, “No man, it’s a good thing.” I guess it’s hard for most people to understand that for the most part, Lars and I like each other, enjoy each other, and want to be around one another… I thought the ‘UhOh’ was cute, for what it’s worth.
